If you're a determined new writer, this class will provide you with the skills you need to get published.

Have you ever thought about writing for magazines? Turn your dreams into bylines and help yourself to a bright future as a magazine writer. It's fun, it's easy, and a great source of extra income. If you're a determined new writer, or if you haven't written for magazines in years, this class will jump start your career. You'll learn plenty of powerful brainstorming techniques designed to practically write every article for you.

Courses are delivered to you through expertly executed lessons, online instruction and interaction with like-minded students. Our courses are designed to deliver all of the benefits of studying in a classroom whilst giving you the flexibility to study at a time and place to suit your needs. You can access your classroom 24/7 from any device with an internet connection.

This course has a 3 month duration. You'll complete comprehensive lessons, quizzes and assignments before submitting your final exam at the end of the course to achieve your certificate. Courses must be completed within the 3 month access period.

Did you know that you don't have to be an expert on a topic to write a magazine article about it? And you don't need a wall of diplomas to be a writer, either. If you think it's necessary to have taken formal courses in writing, journalism, or communications to write, reconsider that idea. In this lesson, you'll discover where ideas originate and get started as a writer of nonfiction magazine articles.

Ask a magazine writer about the genres available to this profession and you'll learn about consumer topics, informational pieces, question-and-answer formats, true crime articles, and a bunch more. You'll hear about how-to articles, too. If you've been seriously thinking about writing for magazines—which I hope you have—you need to know about the categories. You'll begin that investigation today.

You've just purchased the latest market guidebook with the writing guidelines for oodles of magazines. It's awesome, complex, and exciting. If you feel overwhelmed, you're not alone. Some new writers get copies of market guidebooks and, once they've thumbed through them, put them aside. The books can be intimidating. But after this lesson, you'll be a pro at selecting magazines that want articles from you. By the end of it, you'll be able to use an innovative outlining tool, called The Bubble Method, which will help you make every single topic a potential article.

What is a query letter? Do nonfiction article writers really need them? How can you write one that will capture the interest of editors? That's what we'll discuss today—giving you a foundation for writing a query that sells your ideas.

In this lesson, you'll get a quick review of production tips and grammar rules. But the gem is a section on how to interview the people, experts, and celebrities that you'll be writing about. Whatever type of article you write, you may have occasion to interview someone. Not being an effective interviewer will diminish your chances of success. However, what you learn today will make interviewing fun and easy.

Money. It's the topic of this lesson, and we'll discuss it in depth. Then we'll debunk that bugaboo, writer's block. Yes, writer's block is out there, waiting to get your attention and stop you in your tracks. But today you're going to learn how to simply acknowledge it and then get writing once again.

Do you know your reader? Most new writers say, "Hey, of course I do." Then they look at me as if I'm from the planet Zod, and they seem to be saying, "What a silly question." But unless you know who you're writing for and write in a fashion that captures and sustains a reader's interest, you'll find writing for magazines a huge challenge. So, today, we'll talk about writing for a reader, ways to create clear and crisp writing, and writing fillers and essays.

Have you ever wondered how magazine writers know how many words are right for a specific topic? Have you thought about where sidebars come from? Do you want to gain credibility for a nonfiction book and further your profession, cause, or company? You'll get answers to these questions and much more here, in today's lesson.

By the end of this lesson, you'll be able to research topics for articles and understand how to get yourself into the research picture. It's nearly painless and really fun once you know the techniques professional magazine writers use.

Do you need to interview an expert or get a quote from one to make your article sparkle? You probably have a book in your house right now that would supply what you're looking for. Today, we'll talk more about finding experts to make your articles sizzle. Then we'll examine the tools you need to self-edit. Self-editing is the polish that turns okay writing into publishable words.

Recycle your research and you'll be able to sell and resell ideas without reinventing the wheel. That's the focus of this lesson. We'll also discuss writing about theme and seasonal articles, locating regional publications that would be crazy not to have you write for them, and networking with others to increase the number of articles you sell.

You're about to print an article on which you've been working for a week. It's dynamite and headed for publication in a major magazine. This is your lucky break. As weird as it seems to a cyber-savvy writer like you, the editor wants a printed manuscript. After thinking, "This magazine is still in the dark ages," you smile and comply. However, you've run out of paper (or need a printer cartridge) or stamps or some other indispensable writing supply. If this hasn't happened to you yet, it may, unless you realize that time is money. Time management is our final topic and since we only have so much time in our days, today you'll learn how to use what you have, and use it well.

Learn to create Mac, iPhone, and iPad apps and programs using Objective-C and the Xcode compiler.

The fastest-growing software market today involves mobile applications (or apps). In this course, you'll learn to use the free Xcode compiler and the Objective-C programming language to program your own apps that you can sell through Apple's App Store, reaching millions of potential customers around the world.

You'll start with the basic steps to writing any program, then progress to using Xcode—the same compiler that Apple, Microsoft, Adobe, and many other companies use to write programs and applications. Along the way, you'll explore examples and perform simple coding exercises to build your confidence using Xcode and Objective-C.

Even if you're new to programming or have experience programming a different type of computer, this course will offer the guidance you need to build your own apps. By the end of this course, you'll know how to find your way around Xcode and write Objective-C commands, so you'll be ready to start creating your very own Mac,iPhone, or iPad programs!

Computers, smartphones, and tablets may look nice, but they're essentially useless without software to make them work. Today, the Mac is one of the hottest computers around, the iPhone is one of the most popular smartphones, and the iPad is one of the most dominant tablets in the market. With so many people buying these products, there's a tremendous opportunity to write and sell software or applications for all these millions of users. In our first lesson, you'll learn the basics of how programming works for any computer. Then you'll find out how to use a programming tool called Xcode to create programs or applications for the Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

Just like a lot of trained professionals—from surgeons to car mechanics—computer programmers need certain special tools to help them write programs. In this lesson, we'll go over the types of tools you'll need to create programs. Then you'll learn how to use Xcode, the free programming tool that Apple provides for writing Mac, iPhone, and iPad programs and applications. By the end of this lesson, you'll feel a lot more comfortable using Xcode because you'll know what it can do, how it works, and how to use it to write your own programs.

Today we'll look at the three basic parts of any program and how to create them. First, we'll explore the user interface or <i>View</i> that allows users to control a program and view information. Second, we'll talk about the <i>Model</i>&mdash;the code that tells your program to perform a calculation. And third, you'll find out how a <i>Controller</i> links your View and your Model. When you have a feel for these three elements, you can understand how to create any type of program you wish.

Programming boils down to writing commands in a particular language. To create Mac, iPhone, and iPad programs, you'll use a programming language called Objective-C. The bigger your program, the more complicated it can get&mdash;so today you'll learn how to divide a large program into smaller, more manageable parts.

What's the main feature of any program? The commands that tell the program what to do and how to do it! To create Objective-C commands, you need to learn how to read, write, and understand Objective-C code . . . and that's what we'll talk about today.

<p>Every program needs to hold data temporarily, and today you'll see how this works. First, you'll discover how programs can hold data in a storage unit called a <em>variable</em> or a <em>constant</em>. After that, you'll find out how Objective-C manipulates data to make decisions. </p>

Every program needs to make decisions based on input. In this lesson, you'll learn how to compare values and choose between sets of instructions, allowing your program to react to different data and calculate new results. You'll learn about True and False values known as <i>Boolean</i> values as well as branch structures in programming known as <i>if</i> and <i>switch</i> statements. &nbsp;

If you need a computer to run certain commands multiple times, you can write the same lines of code over and over . . . or you can use a <em>loop</em>, which lets you write code once and have it run as many times as you like. Today you'll master three types of loops.

One of the most useful features of modern programming languages like Objective-C is the ability to create objects. The main idea behind objects is to divide a large program into independent parts that you can paste together like building blocks. By learning the advantages of objects and how to use them in Objective-C, you can create programs faster and more reliably than ever before.

Objective-C code tells your program how to work, but the user only sees the <i>interface</i>&mdash;the screen on which your program displays information for the user to view or manipulate. Designing a user interface is easy because Xcode provides common elements, including buttons, check boxes, and text fields. Then you can connect your interface with your Objective-C code to make the whole thing work.

To design a user interface, you need to understand not only what different elements you can use but also when to use them and how to incorporate them into your own program. In this lesson, you'll continue learning about designing a user interface. You'll also get acquainted with using Apple's documentation to find out more about some of the most popular user interface elements.

Congratulations&mdash;you're ready to create a basic iPhone program! By applying what you've learned throughout this course, you can get a rough idea of how to&nbsp;develop your own programs for the Mac, the iPhone, or the iPad.

Master the use of SMART Board and SMART Notebook technology so you can create powerful interactive lessons that capture your student's attention.

SMART Boards are revolutionising today's classroom. Using these exciting interactive whiteboards, you can create multimedia lessons that engage learners and address their diverse needs.

But having SMART Boards in the classroom and knowing how to use them to provide quality instruction are two different things! If you have a Smart Board in your classroom but have little training in using it, you may be wondering—""What on earth do I do with it?""

In this class, you'll discover how to create outstanding presentations with SMART Board and SMART Notebook technology. You'll explore the basics of using these tools and discover how to create your own SMART board lessons blending text, videos, and graphics. You'll also go beyond the bells and whistles and look at specific ways to use SMART technology to broaden your content and make your lessons accessible to all students. Finally, you'll get some simple trouble-shooting tips that will come in handy if your SMART board isn't acting as smart as it should.

By the time you're done with this course, you'll be an expert at using your new high-tech tools to plan SMART board lessons that provide engaging, thought-provoking, and easy-to-update material for today's media-savvy learners.

We'll begin this first lesson by taking a close look at exactly what a SMART Board is and focusing on its interactivity potential. What often happens in the classroom is that teachers inherit a SMART Board but don't know what to do with it. As far as they can tell, it's not much more than a whiteboard. So that's what we'll focus on in this lesson: the SMART Board's interactivity potential and its myriad possibilities. At the end of this lesson, you'll be excited and eager to learn more.

As teachers, we cannot turn our backs on technology. Our students have grown up with it. When we look at today&rsquo;s learners, we have to look at the whole picture, and that includes where they are with current technology. So, in this lesson, we'll talk about some of the more recent learning theories and where technology fits in with them. We&rsquo;ll go over the different learning types, multiple intelligences, differentiated instruction, and constructivism. We&rsquo;ll take each theory and see how technology can complement them all. Along the way, I&rsquo;ll also share with you the difference between digital natives and digital immigrants, an understanding that could help you greatly in your approach to teaching.

Our goal for this lesson is to download the SMART Notebook software and install it on your computer. Once you have the software downloaded and installed, we'll talk about the equipment you'll need to get started. Then we'll cover how to connect your SMART Board to your computer and projector. When we finish with all those technical details, we can start taking a tour of the SMART Board and the SMART Notebook software. By the end of this lesson, you'll be well prepared to begin working with your SMART Board and the SMART Notebook software. Please keep in mind that you do not have to have a Smart Board to complete the work for this class. The SMART Notebook software is the only requirement. The software is the magic with the Smart Board, not the board itself. So, even if you are exploring the idea of using Smart Boards, you can use your computer and create amazing lessons to use later when you actually have a board.

In this lesson, we'll focus on how to write on the SMART Board, beginning with how to type on it. Then we'll talk about how to write using the collection of pens, how to make shapes, and how to use the eraser. Along the way, I'll share some examples to help illustrate how you can use each of these tools. My goal is to inspire you with some great ideas that you can incorporate into your own classroom.

In this lesson, we're going to look at ways to make use of documents you already have. There are a couple of terrific tools to help you do just that: Smart Ink and Capture. Another tool you'll undoubtedly use often is the Table tool. I'm sure you use tables and charts all the time as a teaching tool. The SMART Notebook Table tool makes creating and manipulating tables super easy. And with its other cool features&mdash;like being able to cover individual cells until you're ready to reveal them&mdash;I'm betting you'll use Table the tool often. Learning how to use these tools will take you another step closer to SMART Board mastery.

In today&rsquo;s lesson, we&rsquo;ll focus on the SMART Board Gallery. In the Gallery, you&rsquo;ll find manipulatives, clip art, images, and more to help you teach every subject area. You can even add your own images to the Gallery to tailor your lessons to your own wishes. We'll also explore two valuable components of the Gallery: Gallery Essentials and My Content. We&rsquo;ll take an in-depth look at each of these tools so that you&rsquo;ll be comfortable using them to create highly visual, interactive lessons that will engage and involve your students.

In this lesson, we'll be digging into the Lesson Activity Toolkit to see what's there and how it can help you with your classroom instruction. With a simple drag and type, you can introduce, review, or enrich learning. We'll also spend some time working with the Page Sorter, Attachments tab, and Activity Builder tab. The Page Sorter is instrumental in helping you see where you are in your SMART Notebook file. It's also where you can group together parts of your file for more efficient access. The Attachments tab is a terrific way to use your own resources while maintaining continuity in your lessons. Finally, the Activity Builder tab allows you to create your own customized sorting activities. &nbsp;By the end of this lesson, you should feel like a pro in navigating all the sidebar tabs.

Knowing how the SMART Notebook software works and what the various tools do is not the most important thing when using your SMART Board. Once you have a solid understanding of how things work, it&rsquo;s critical to shift your focus to content, not bells and whistles. In this lesson, we&rsquo;re going to focus on finding effective lessons&mdash;ones that are already put together for you&mdash;to meet your curriculum requirements. I'll be sharing lots of resources to make your teaching life much easier.

Even when we use the Gallery and the Lesson Activity Toolkit, sometimes we still come up a little bit short. What do you do if you can&rsquo;t find just the right lesson? That's what we'll focus on in this lesson: We&rsquo;re going to discuss how to make your own SMART notebook lessons. You&rsquo;ll learn how to create <em>reveal</em> and <em>drag-and-drop</em> experiences. Throughout this lesson, we&rsquo;ll keep in mind the Marzano lesson design. We'll preview, chunk, and scaffold learning in any lesson we create. Most important of all, we&rsquo;ll keep our eyes focused on content, not just adding more doodads and gadgets. As I share these tools with you, I&rsquo;ll also be giving you some great lesson ideas.

Students learn in different ways. In this lesson, you'll learn to make your SMART Notebook lessons even more visual and interactive. We'll concentrate on how to reach more learners by animating objects, adding your own images, and adding video and sound. Kids love animation and sound, and adding them will make your lessons that much more enticing. Plus, lessons with animation, video, and sound have the ability to reach every kind of learner.

Since videos have become so much a part of our daily experience, it only makes sense to use them in the classroom, too. SMART Notebook includes several multimedia functions to help make learning interactive. In this lesson, we&rsquo;ll be learning how to use SMART Notebook&rsquo;s Page Recorder, the SMART Recorder, and the SMART Video Player. Even though these features sound similar, they have distinct characteristics that give them unique utility. By the end of this lesson, you&rsquo;ll be creating your own recordings and videos to elevate your classroom instruction to an even higher level.

Do you know what can stop you dead in your tracks when you&rsquo;re using your SMART Board? When something doesn&rsquo;t work. So in this lesson, I&rsquo;m going to share with you some troubleshooting tips. Ideally, they&rsquo;ll head off problems before they even arise. If not, this information will give you some quick and easy ways to get back on track. We&rsquo;ll talk about some of the most common technical problems teachers run into when working with their SMART Boards. Then I&rsquo;ll talk about fixes for operational problems, like when your board is placed too high for students to comfortably work on it. We&rsquo;ll also look at a few more features of the SMART Notebook software. Then we&rsquo;ll wrap up the course with a look at some additional tools that you might consider for use in&nbsp;the future.
