Ruby Programming Fundamentals - Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions answered

Do I have to start my course on the start date?

No. Once enrolled, you’ll receive access to the learning platform and can familiarise yourself through the orientation. Once the start date lapses you will gain access to two lessons a week, for six weeks. You’ll then get an extra 2 weeks at the end to complete your final exam. You can study at your own pace; however we do recommend that you complete each lesson within two weeks of its release so that you manage to complete the course within the 8 week access period.

How long will it take to process my enrolment after I’ve enrolled?

There are no processing times, so you can access your learning platform immediately! If your course has not started yet, you can go through the orientation and familiarise yourself with the learning platform. Your enrolment confirmation email will provide all of these details.

What kind of assignments will I have to complete?

You will complete multiple choice quizzes, short answer questions and summary exams/test(s) which will confirm your understanding of the subject.

What are the requirements?

  • A Ruby on Rails software development environment is required for this course. The first lesson walks through installing a Rails environment on a Windows PC using the Rails Installer software package. The Rails Installer package can be downloaded from railsinstaller.org. You must have a Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 workstation, or a Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, or Windows 2007 server to install the Rails Installer package. Please note that Rails Installer does not work on Windows 95, Windows 98, nor Windows Me. Students using the Macintosh platform may be able to use the default Ruby environment included on Macintosh OS X 10.4 (Tiger), 10.5 (Leopard), 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and 10.7 (Lion). Please consult the Apple Web site for instructions on how to update the installed software to the latest version of Ruby on Rails. Prior HTML coding experience is helpful; but not required.
